The “Red Army Faction” is being tried again in Germany

Daniela Klette, who is considered the last leader of the third generation of the left-wing extremist organization Red Army Faction (RAF), is being tried in Germany. In order to remind the German audience about the terrorist activity of this organization, a film revealing the background of the RAF was released on the Second Channel of German television. During their activities, the terrorists killed several dozen people and seriously injured about three hundred.

The trial of 66-year-old Klette began in Lower Saxony. She is accused of participating in numerous armed attacks, including on the US Embassy in Bonn. She and two accomplices committed the last 13 attacks (they are still wanted by the justice system) between 1990 and 2016. Their victims were two major bankers. When arrested in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a pistol, a grenade launcher and explosives that she had been storing illegally were found in Klette’s apartment.

Before her arrest, Klette lived in Berlin under the name of Claudia Yvonne and had the appropriate documents. Nothing is reported about their origin in the press. It cannot be ruled out that they were received at one time from the Ministry of State Security (MGB) of the GDR, which not only provided shelter to members of the RAF after the defeat of the organization in Germany, but also contributed to their acquisition of a new identity.

Klette, according to her entourage, led a completely normal lifestyle, practiced Brazilian dancing and met with friends who were unaware of her double lifestyle.

The RAF has been operating in Germany since the 70s of the last century. This organization has carried out numerous attacks on banks and political assassinations. Among their known victims are the country’s Attorney General and the head of one of the largest business unions. The aim of the terrorists was to create a revolutionary situation in the country. Later, the organization was attributed to a connection with the GDR MGB, but it was not possible to prove this. After the organization was defeated in the 1980s, some of its members fled to the GDR and received political asylum there.

Representatives of the first generation of RAF leaders Andreas Baader, Ulrika Meinhoff and Gudrun Esslin died under unclear circumstances in West German prisons. According to unconfirmed reports, they were killed there. One of the leading Soviet journalists of that period published an article in the press on the activities of the RAF, in which he compared their activities with the Nechaevism. Recall that Sergei Nechaev was a Russian revolutionary who allowed all means to achieve the goal. He is considered one of the founders of narodnaya Volya terrorism.

Klette herself, who lived in the GDR, went underground after the unification of Germany, but continued her terrorist activities directed against the existing system in Germany. She does not repent of her actions. It is no coincidence that at the May Day demonstration in the capital Kreuzberg, young people who hid their faces read out Klette’s appeal to the German people demanding to fight against the “existing regime in Germany.” In this appeal, she also condemned Israel’s actions against the Gaza Strip.

Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior of Germany, representing the Christian Social Union, in a recent speech on the occasion of the publication of a book on extremist offenses, acknowledged the existence of cases of leftist extremism in the country. He stressed that anti-Israeli views are typical for leftist extremists in Germany.
