At the end of his tenure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency Improvement (DOGE), Elon Musk discovered that Trump was wrong about everything. The billionaire criticized the budget bill drafted by the US president. In an interview with CBS, Musk said that this bill, which provides for increased government spending, including defense spending, undermines the work that DOGE is doing. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives of the US Congress, dominated by supporters of the president, approved the document, albeit by a small majority (215 in favor and 214 against).
All this did not prevent Musk from thanking Donald Trump in his farewell text on the social network for the opportunity to reduce government spending.
On May 30, the 130-day period that Musk was entitled to serve as DOGE expires. The day before its expiration, he resigned as head of this structure. Musk nevertheless appreciated the activities of DOGE. According to him, in 130 days it was possible to achieve a reduction in government spending by 175 billion dollars. That’s less than 2 trillion (that’s how much Musk planned to reduce government spending), but it’s still a lot.
The authors of Russian Telegram channels also commented on Musk’s departure.
“Elon Musk quietly, without unnecessary ceremonies and loud statements, left the American government. Formally, his 130-day term as a special civil servant has come to an end, which he announced on his social network X, thanking Trump for the opportunity, Temnik writes. – There is a simple reason behind such modesty — there is nothing much to brag about. Musk’s loudly stated goal of saving the federal budget $2 trillion remained on paper. The real savings, according to some estimates, amounted to only a few tens of billions — a drop in the bucket for the American budget. And Musk himself, who until recently was constantly flashing in the headlines and the Oval Office, noticeably slowed down his political activity, appearing less frequently in the media. Washington and by reducing posts on political topics. Politico even noted that Trump and the Republicans had almost stopped mentioning the businessman, and his last name had disappeared from the election mailings.”
